Overview of Elasticity of Materials


Currently, there is no suitable open source text for Materials Science which not only includes the basics of the topic, as seen in Callister's Materials Science and Engineering, but also covers additional concepts such as the derivation of Mohr's Circle and an introduction to Tensors. Never the less, these concepts are key for advanced materials analysis, and this is built as an open-source companion text to generic Materials Science texts which covers these additional topics and goes into further detail on their applications in the Mechanics of Solids.

While this text will go in depth on elastic materials, there are currently no plans to include boundary conditions and is thus considered an overview of the topic, academically speaking. A basic level of understanding on the subject of Materials Science, including stress and strain is required to understand the real world applications of this text. Furthermore, while the equations and concepts can be used without understanding the underlying derivatives, a basic understanding of linear algebra, and other higher level math is recommended for understanding the Mohr's circle derivation and Tensors.
