Abraham, intitially known as Abram, was the son of Terah, who descended from Shem, one of Noah's three sons. Upon the death of Terah, God instructed Abram to travel to Canaan, a land God promised to give Abram's descendants. Unfortunately, a famine started in Canaan, and Abram was forced to travel to Egypt in search of food. In Egypt, Abram told his wife, Sarai, to pretend she was his sister. He feared that if it became known that Sarai was his wife, the Egyptians would kill him to take her. ( Work in Progress)
