Overview
editRitchie Coote joins the Gryffindor team in Harry's sixth year. He is described as "weedy looking", but has very good aim.
Role in the Books
editHarry, now Quidditch Team captain, selects Ritchie Coote as one of his two Beaters, the other being Jimmy Peakes. Coote is described as a boy who "looked weedy but aimed well".
Strengths
editCoote is selected as a Beater due to his skilled marksmanship. While not as skilled as Fred and George Weasley, who were both Beaters, he is a competent player.
As a result, he is a Quidditch champion, being part of the Gryffindor team when it wins the Quidditch Cup during Harry's sixth year.
Weaknesses
editRitchie is ever shown to have any particular weaknesses, mostly due to his brief appearances.
As he does not fight in the Battle of Hogwarts, he is likely to have been younger than Harry and, therefore, less skilled in magic, but this is conjectural.
Relationships with Other Characters
editWe must assume that Richie gets along with the rest of the Quidditch team, such as his fellow beater Jimmy Peakes, and Captain, Harry.
Unlike some other members of the team, Ritchie remains in it for the entirety of the year, including their victorious final.
Analysis
editRitchie is a good example of a Gryffindor character: while he is not built to look particularly powerful, he has a talent which he puts to good use. This shows a certain amount of courage on his part, which is a definite Gryffindor trait.

- How old do you think Coote might be?
Greater Picture
editHarry is, of course, the Quidditch Captain who selects Ritchie Coote as a Beater on his new team. Throughout the year, members of the team come and go, including Ron, McLaggen, Dean, and Harry himself. Ritchie, however, remains where he is and does his job well.
He is not quite as fleshed-out as his teammate Jimmy Peakes, who has more things happen to him throughout the series, but he is a valuable addition to the team nonetheless.
