Meitei Culture/Law & Governance

The traditional law and governance in Meitei civilisation was predominantly monarchical in nature. In 429 CE, during the reign of King Naophangba, a proto-Constitution was established in Kangleipak. The law went on expanded, through several amendments, until it was finalised in 1110 CE in the form of a written Constitution of the Meitei kingdom. Since it was enacted by King Loiyumba (1074-1122 CE), it was known as the "Loiyumpa Silyel" in the later centuries.
