About This Book edit

This book is a comprehensive guide to Mac OS X Leopard, the 6th version of the operating system that runs on Apple's Macintosh computers. Its successors were Snow Leopard (2009), Lion (2011), and Mountain Lion (2012).

Who is This Book For? edit

This book is written for both new and experienced users alike. If you are a new Mac user, you can use this book to familiarize yourself with the Mac environment. If you are a more experienced user, you can use it to learn about advanced features that will make using your Mac easier and more enjoyable.

However, this book cannot be everything for everyone. If you have never used a computer before, you should learn the basics of computing before you read this book. Likewise, if you already know Mac OS X like the back of your hand and want to learn about the operating system's underpinnings, you probably won't find what you're looking for here.

What Does This Book Discuss? edit

This book includes a thorough discussion of the Mac OS and its included applications. It does not discuss iLife or iWork, suites of multimedia and productivity applications, because they are technically not parts of the Mac OS. Please refer to the book iLife for information on these applications.

This book also does not discuss iTunes, the iPod, or the iPhone. Please see iTunes for information on Apple's music products.
