Verbs | (plain, , affirmative) + まま (plain, present, negative) + まま |
つけたまま* あけたまま* 消さないまま* 閉めないまま* |
i-Adjectives | い + まま | 若いまま 赤いまま |
na-Adjectives | な + まま | 便利なまま 元気なまま |
Nouns | の + まま | 去年のまま このまま |
*Note that these verbs are transitive. This is a little confusing because in English, we say "I left window open when I left the house." and in Japanese it would be 窓を開けたまま出かけた which is "I left the window in the state of having opened it when I left the house."
例:
- 電灯をつけたまま寝てしまった。
I went to bed with the lights still on. - 電灯を消さないまま寝てしまった。
I went to bed without turning off the lights. (Same meaning as above example.) - このままにしておいて下さい。
