Introduction to Oceanography/Cover

Introduction_to_Oceanography edit

This book describes the materials which make the oceans, and the unique chemical and physical properties of sea water. We shall describe their origin, behavior, and history, and when relevant the relationship to other Earth systems such as the atmosphere and the lithosphere. After reading this book, you will have a better understanding of the Ocean role in our dynamic planet. This book is intended for people who wish to better understand our world and we hope that the text is fluently readable. We hope the text will encompass a university level oceanography course. The reader is assumed to have a general knowledge of high school chemistry, physics, and mathematics. When complex ideas from these disciplines are introduced we will include a brief primer and link to relevant materials to aid the reader who is unfamiliar with them. Our primary purpose is to be as clear as possible.
