Abu DhabiEdit

The Arab Trucial State of Abu Dhabi used meter stamps at least as early as November 1967. In 1971 it merged with several other Trucial States into the umbrella group United Arab Emirates. Stamps inscribed “ABU DHABI” continued to be used for many years after the merger. See also United Arab Emirates.



1. Pitney Bowes “Automax” (MV), 1967.    [$5]

Upright frank with simulated perforation outer border.
Country name in curved panel at top.
Meter no. with “P.B.” prefix below “FILS/ POSTAGE” at bottom.

2. Neopost “205" (MV).    [$5]

Nearly square frank with straight single-line border.
Country name in curved panel at top.
Meter no. with “N” prefix in lower corners, “FILS” at bottom.

3. Neopost “Frankmaster 505” (MV).    [$10]

Similar to Type 2 but frank wider than tall.
M# with “N” prefix, “FILS” at bottom.
The date is found with month in Arabic numbers and also in Roman numerals.

4. Neopost "205" and “2205” (MV).

As Type 2 but blank at sides and with “DIRHAMS/ POSTAGE” at bottom.
M# with “N” prefix.
Date figures tall ("205" model) or short ("2205" model, shown).
The date is found with month in Arabic numbers and also in Roman numerals.
