Patty Edwards: Art Lecturer and University Supervisor in Art Education

Patty Edwards is an American artist born in Poughkeepsie, NY. She currently serves as an art lecturer at Old Dominion University. Community partnerships include ForKids, inc., The Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Virginia, the Rosemont Youth Library, Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Education

Edwards graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) with a BFA in Illustration. While at RISD, she served an intern at Stux Gallery in Boston. She has worked on the staff at MOMA and Grey Advertising in NYC.

She obtained an MFA in Painting from the State University of New York (SUNY) in New Paltz. Edwards taught drawing foundations at SUNY and later served as an adjunct professor at Duchess Community College.

Awards

Patty Edwards has been awarded recognition from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and the Lab School of Washington; May 2008. Her publications of illustrations include: Guesstimation, written by ODU Physics Professor, Larry Weinstein and Professor of Mathematics, John Adam. Publications include cover art for A Few Spells, a collection of poems by Renee Olander; released by Finishing Line Press in 2010.

Edwards's art was selected by national jury: Craig Drummon; juror, New Waves 2011, at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia; Rhonda Wall; natuional juror, 2010 National Art Education Association (NAEA) Women's Caucus Exhibition in Baltimore Maryland. Edwards also exhibited as part of the 2010 Rawls Museum of Arts Juried Exhibition selected by Sally Bowring.

Edwards has been awarded multiple grants including: Individual Artists Grant from the Dutchess County Arts Council 1994, Town Foundation Grant 2005, Safe Schools Healthy Student Grant 2002/2003, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts: Teacher Incentive Grants for Instructional Projects.
