High School Biology/Endocrine System
The nervous system is the system that directs the actions of the body by the transmission and receipt of signals.
The nervous system is considered to be formed of two parts: the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
The CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord.
The PNS consists of the nerves. Each nerve is a fibre that is enclosed in a sheath to insulate. The nerve transmit information using electrical signals. The PNS is divided into the somatic nervous system, autonomic nervous system and enteric nervous system.
