The systematic racial segregation observable on the maps in this site is the product of the interaction of federal, state/local government, and private sector causes. These causes of racial segregation form a vicious circle, via the ways segregation in turn causes concentrated urban poverty among African-Americans and Hispanics, which reinforces racial prejudice, further fueling white flight from neighborhoods inhabited by or proximate to blacks and Hispanics.
