1-10

edit
  • 1: æn (one)
  • 2: twæ (two)
  • 3: tri (three)
  • 4: fir (four)
  • 5: fimf (five)
  • 6: six (six)
  • 7: seven (seven)
  • 8: aght (eight)
  • 9: nin (nine)
  • 10: ten (ten)

11-12

edit
  • 11: ænliv (eleven)
  • 12: twæliv (twelve)

13-19

edit

The numbers 13 to 19 are formed by adding the suffix "-ten" (compare this to the English suffix "-teen") to the numbers 3 through 9:

  • 13: triten (thirteen)
  • 14: firten (fourteen)
  • 15: fimften (fifteen)
  • 16: sixten (sixteen)
  • 17: seventen (seventeen)
  • 18: aghtten (eighteen)
  • 19: ninten (nineteen)

20-99

edit

The names of the numbers 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 are formed by adding the suffix "-tig" (compare this to the English suffix "-ty") to the name of the first digit, thus:

  • 20: twæntig (twenty)
  • 30: tritig (thirty)
  • 40: firtig (forty)
  • 50: fimftig (fifty)
  • 60: sixtig (sixty)
  • 70: seventig (seventy)
  • 80: aghttig (eighty)
  • 90: nintig (ninety)

The rule for forming numbers which are not divisible by 10 is the same as the rule in English - the name of the first number followed by the name of the second. For example, the number 42 is "firtig twæ". Other examples are:

  • 25: twæntig fimf (twenty five)
  • 61: sixtig æn (sixty one)
  • 99: nintig nin (ninety nine)

100 - 1000000

edit
  • 100: hondrad (hundred)
  • 1000: tusend (thousand)
  • 1000000: grottusend (million)

Forming numbers

edit

The general rule for number formation in Folksprak is almost identical to the rule for number formation in English with the difference that English sometimes uses "and" before the name of the last digit (for example, 2007 is "two thousand and seven), whereas Folksprak uses no extra words. Some examples may help to make this clearer:

  • 405: fir hondrad fimf (four hundred and five)
  • 1528: æn tusend fimf hondrad twæntig aght (one thousand five hundred and twenty-eight)
  • 3051: tri tusend fimftig æn (three thousand and fifty-one)
  • 42424: firtig twæ tusend fir hondrad twæntig fir (forty-two thousand four hundred and twenty-four)
  • 80692: aghttig tusend six hondrad nintig twæ (eighty thousand six hundred and ninety-two)
  • 555007: fimf hondrad fimftig fimf tusend seven (five hundred and fifty-five thousand and seven)
  • 6004000: six grottusend fir tusend (six million and four thousand)
