English: Typical signal levels for a 8N1 RS-232 signal consisting of 1 start bit, 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. Edit: two bytes shown so the distinction between going idle and going on to the next byte can be made (previous image showed going on to the next byte but did not make it clear).
