Guided Practice: Adverbs Explained

In this section we will discuss three groups of adverbs.
1. Adverbs of time: This answers the question of when the act was completed.
2. Adverbs of place: This answers the question of where the act was completed.
3. Adverbs of manner: This answers the question of how the act was completed.

Adverb Category 1

Adverbs of Time Adverbs of time are used to describe when an action takes place.

Adverbs of Time Spanish English Example ultimamente recently Él no está en clase ultimamente. inmediatamente immediately Ella fue al doctor inmediatamente después del accidente. pronto soon Nos vemos pronto! de vez en cuando once in a while Él juega futból de vez en cuando. Ya Already Ella ya limpió su cuarto. después after Ellos van a trabajar después de escuela. todavía still Aunque esta lloviendo, ¿ todavía vamos a jugar afuera? cualquier lugar anywhere Podemos quedarnos en cualquier lugar.

Adverb Category 2

Adverbs of Manner Adverbs of time are used to describe how an action takes place.

Adverbs of Manner Spanish English Example rapidamente quickly Ella corre rapidamente. después after Ellos van a trabajar después de escuela. agressivamente aggressively Él grita agressivamente. silenciosamente quietly Ella camina silenciosamente. muy fácil very easy El examen fue muy fácil. tranquilamente calmly Las niña duerma tranquilamente.

Adverb Category 3

Adverbs of Place Adverbs of time are used to describe where an action takes place.

Adverbs of Place Spanish English Example fuera outside Ellos estan jugando afuera. en todas partes everywhere ¡Hay nieve [snow] en todas partes! alrededor around Creo que hay galletas [cookies] alrededor de la leche. juntos together Nosotros hablamos juntos.
