Design of Jigs & Fixtures/Locator
I va already started on this but I guess so do it again the first thing you need to do is determine which dimension is most critical relating to whatever part this apart your manufacturing makes up with. Then we need to determine whether the locating surface will be flat or round. If it's flat then we need to establish a surface that is totally slept and relieved slightly in the corners and along the edges sold at the flat surface and not the edges Arbors will locate the part in the fixture. If it is a round part such as a camshaft or engine piston usually we will locate it in something called V blocks. The same principle applies no edges or Birds but just the round Edge locates the part in the fixture.
