Active Learning Quizzes |
---|
Problem: Taking a quiz tends to be about assessment rather than about learning.
Level (any) Semester (any) Activity type ( quiz) |
Solution: Have the students identify relevant quiz questions. Students form groups for this in class activity. Each group creates a short quiz. Arrange for each group to take the quiz created by another group, and then have it graded. The pairs of groups discuss the right and wrong answers.
Formation (randomly) Size (small, medium) Composition (any) Duration (single class) Contribution to grade (small) Activity progression (group to individual, individual to group ) Roles (equal responsibility) |
Rationale: Asking students to create, take and grade the quiz helps the teacher identify what the students understand and did not understand about the learning material. |
Potential Pitfalls: Students do not always come up with good quiz questions.
Students may not know the answers to their own quiz questions. |
