Tiens, tiens (French) Indeed? Well, well. An interjection expressing surprise, doubt, disapproval, or skepticism.
Laetabuntur in cubilibus suis (Latin) They shall rejoice in their beds.[1] This is an adaptation of Psalms 149:5:[2]
Exultabunt sancti in gloria; laudabunt in cubilibus suis. |
The saints shall exult in glory: they shall praise in their beds. |
Ut implerentur scripturae (Latin) That the scriptures might be fulfilled.[3] This phrase occurs once in the Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible: Matthew 26:56, in which Jesus is arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane:[4]
Hoc autem totum factum est ut implerentur scripturae prophetarum. Tunc discipuli omnes relicto eo fugerunt. |
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled. |
