Copperfield was a former town on the west bank of the Snake River and the north bank of Pine Creek. Platted around 1898, the town saw in increase in population in 1910 due to nearby railroad construction. When construction ended in 1913, the town gained a reputation for lawlessness, prompting then-governor Oswald West to send his secretary, Fern Hobbs along with a state militia to impose martial law. The former site of Copperfield is currently occupied by a park managed by Idaho Power.
