Leaf Spots are circular lesions found on the leaves of plants, caused by either bacteria of fungi.

Symptoms and Signs

Initial infections are small, circular spots, usually with a differently colored zone on the outer edge. Severe cases cause distorted leaves or blight.

Life Cycle

Spores or bacteria overwinter on fallen leaves or buds. Growth is favored by moist conditions on the leaf surface.

Host Range

Most of the pathogens are quite selective.

Controls

• Cultural Controls: Prune or thin to allow good air circulation.
• Physical Removal: Clean up thoroughly in the autumn to reduce the amount of spores.
• Chemical Controls (synthetic): Neem Oil, Copper-based Sprays
