Cianwood City (also known as Cianwood Island) is a fictional city in the Pokémon video games (Gold and Silver), located in the Johto region. The only way to get to Cianwood City is to fly or take routes 40 and 41. Cianwood City is the westermost City in the Gold and Silver versions and is in a somewhat remote part of Johto. Because the section of land that Cianwood City is on is never completely shown, it is assumed that it is on an island (but it might not be.) As Johto is based on the Kansai region of Japan, it is likely that Cianwood City is located on the western edge of the Shikoku island of Japan. The landmass that Cianwood City is on is obscured in Pokémon maps. Cianwood was most likely the last town to be created, as the town planned for Lake of Rage has a Gym.

Places of interest

edit

Cianwood Pharmacy

edit

In Cianwood's southernmost building there is a pharmacist that will give you a Secret Potion, which needs to be given to Jasmine in Olivine City. After the Secret Potion is delivered, healing items will be sold there. Beta programming shows that the Pharmacy may have been intended for Ecruteak.

Pokémon Gym

edit

The Gym Leader is Chuck. He uses fighting-type Pokémon and will give the player the Storm Badge if he is defeated. Before battling him 4 trainers must be battled and a rock puzzle must be solved by using HM 04 (Strength). Chuck has two Pokémon: a level 27 Primeape and a level 30 Poliwrath.

Photo Studio

edit

In Cianwood City's northernmost building is a Pokémon photographer who will take pictures of one's Pokémon if he or she has a Game Boy Printer.

Pokémon Seer

edit

In Crystal there is a woman located at the northern portion of the town who will tell the player where they caught their Pokémon. This knowledge is important to players who want to increase their Pokémon's friendship, because if a Pokémon fights in the area where it was caught, its friendship is increased by a small amount. This will not work for traded Pokémon, but will for ones that have been hatched from eggs.

Demographics

edit

Cianwood City has a total population of 19, making it is the fifth smallest city in Johto. It presents little population because of its remote position. Cianwood City is strongly related to Olivine City, as the only route to Cianwood is Olivine.
