Unfortunately some of our students may experience depression. As teachers we will need to guide them to seek assistance or help when feeling depressed. Some of the characteristics of depression include:

  • Persistent sadness
  • Loss of pleasure and interest in activities once enjoyed
  • Fatigue or loss of energy
  • Restlessness, irritability
  • Sleep Disturbances
  • Weight or appetite changes
  • Lack of concentration or difficulty making decisions
  • Feelings of worthlessness, hopelessness, or guilt
  • Thoughts of suicide or death

When this characteristics are apparent in a student, conference with the student to see how they feel. They may feel confident in talking to you.
