Netherlands Immigrant Integration Guide/English Basic
The Inburgeringscursus for English speaking people living outside of the Netherlands is a course necessary for certain classes of non-EU citizens wishing to immigrate to Dutch society, while still living abroad. It is one of the conditions for immigration and is part of a larger Integration law for new immigrants to the Netherlands. The foreigner should do the exam at the nearest Dutch embassy in his or her country. Cost is as of 2008 Euro 350,- which should be paid to the Ministry of Foreign affairs (Dutch: Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken).
The examination consists of three parts.
- Knowledge of Dutch society (Dutch: Kennis van de Nederlandse samenleving)
- Very basic knowledge of Dutch language. See Dutch language course. This includes
- List of antonyms (Dutch: lijst van tegenstellingen)
- Repeating a story in the Dutch language
Apart from factual information about Dutch society and Dutch language, the Dutch government tries to educate the prospective immigrant into opinions and behavior that they consider appropriate, desirable and correct.
