MacaoEdit

  • Macao is a small, former Portuguese colony (six square miles) located on an island off the southwest coast of China. Although a twin to Hong Kong in both geographical and political relations to the rest of China (a special administration region), it is far smaller in size and economic strength.
  • Postage meters were first introduced in 1973.
  • All stamps have “MACAU” in the frank.
  • The stamps are grouped according to appearance:
A - Upright frank with simulated perforation border
B - Square or horizontal frank with straight line border
C - Frank with tower of General Post Office
PO - Stamps from machines in Post Offices




GROUP A: Upright frank with simulated perforation borderEdit

Four small shield shapes form crosses in the upper corners.

PO1. Unidentified (digital), 2000 or earlier.

Wide self-adhesive tape with rounded corners.
Underprint of post rider and "CTT CORREIOS" in rose-red repeated across the top.
Stamp used only for registered mail.
Large barcode runs through the middle of the stamp.
"R" and registration number above “MACAU" at top left.
Machine number with "EMP" prefix above date and post office identification at top center.
Value figures in both escudos and euros at top right.
V/F:  000$ / EUR 0.00


NOTE: It is very likely other digital Post Office stamps similar to Type PO1 exist.
