International Postage Meter Stamp Catalog/Guyana

Guyana edit

  • The first meter was installed in 1936 while the country was the British colony of British Guiana. In 1966 it became an independent country within the British Commonwealth and changed its name to GUYANA.
  • The stamps are grouped according to inscription and use:
A - “BRITISH GUIANA”
B - “GUYANA”
PO - Stamps generated by special meters used within post offices

Very wide spacing between TM and frank containing 6-digit impression counter number.

NOTES:

  • Types PO1 and PO2 are from the same machine which generated different stamp designs for various postal services. Other designs for services other than parcel post and registration may exist but are not known.
  • Proofs generated for the Universal Postal Union are more often found than postally used examples which are quite rare, especially on cover.
