Gyakuten Kenji 2/Episode 4: The Forgotten Turnabout/Beginning, Part 1

At his office, Edgeworth is awaiting his meeting with the P.I.C., with a nervous Detective Gumshoe pacing the room. Gumshoe is particularly upset at the idea that Edgeworth might lose his badge, and possibly even switch sides and become a defence attorney. The two are interrupted by a nurse from a nearby hospital, Karin Jenson (武藤 瞳子 (むとう とうこ) Mutō Tōko), who says she has a patient who wants to see Edgeworth. The girl she brings in looks familiar, but you can't quite figure out where you've seen her before... She had one of Edgeworth's business cards on her, which is why she was brought here. The girl has amnesia, and doesn't even remember her own name. Talk to her:

  • Mysterious girl (ナゾの少女 Nazo no shōjo): She was brought to the hospital in this condition yesterday. She had nothing by which Karin could identify her, but she was wearing a badge - the Yatagarasu's Badge!? (ヤタガラスのバッジ Yatagarasu no bajji) Is this Kay? What happened to her?
  • Your name (キミの名前 Kimi no namae): She really doesn't remember anything. Edgeworth and Gumshoe tell her about who she was before she lost her memory. She is particularly upset when she is told of her past as the "Great Thief". Karin shows you the clothes Kay was wearing when she was found. There's something stuck to them, so Gumshoe has them sent to forensics for testing.

  • Memory loss (記憶喪失 Kioku sōshitsu): Gumshoe tells Kay that she was Edgeworth's assistant. She seems confused by what a "prosecutor" is, though. Karin gives you the rest of the things Kay had when she was found: a Jammin' Ninja Mask (忍者ナンジャのお面 Ninja Nanja no o-men), a Letter (手紙 tegami) addressed to Kay, a Ticket Stub (チケットの半券 chiketto no hanken), and an artificial Purple Flower (紫の花 murasaki no hana) from a corsage.

The ticket stub is for the viewing platform of the Grand Tower. Its timestamp is from yesterday evening, meaning Kay was here at some point. Edgeworth decides to bring Kay back there, to see if he can find out how she lost her memory.

At the tower, Gumshoe reads from a pamphlet that the building is 50 storeys tall, and only the viewing platform, located at the top, is open to the public. The Grand Tower Pamphlet (ビッグタワーのパンフレット Biggu Tawā no panfuretto) is added to the Organizer. After interrupting the shooting of a movie, you head to the viewing platform itself. Kay doesn't seem to remember being here, so you ask her to just tell her whatever she can remember.

Press on the third statement. She recognises the cherry tree, and remembers that she was standing underneath it to take shelter from the rain. While there, she saw something red. She changes her third statement:

  • But... from under the cherry tree... I feel like... I saw something red.
  • でも・・・・桜の木の下から・・・・赤い・・・・何かを見た気がします。

Press this statement. Edgeworth asks if the red thing was the nearby stand. She remembers that she saw someone walking towards her from the other side of it. She updates her third statement again:

  • Umm... That's right, someone was walking towards me from the other side of that stand.
  • でも・・・・そう、屋台の向こう側から、だれかが歩いてきて・・・・。

On this statement, present the Grand Tower Pamphlet (ビッグタワーのパンフレット). Edgeworth explains that it would be impossible for someone to stand on the far side of the stand, since there is no ground to stand on behind it. Kay insists that that's what she saw - the person, in a red raincoat, walked towards her... and pushed her off the tower! Kay's Memories (美雲の記憶 Mikumo no kioku) are noted down in the Organizer.

Just then, a police officer comes up to the viewing platform with an announcement: a body has just been found in the tower! The victim is a woman, and her name... is Kay as well?
