Gyakuten Kenji 2/Episode 3: The Inherited Turnabout/Middle, Part 3

The events of Gregory Edgeworth's final case are recounted by Ray - Isaac Dover, a contestant at a dessert contest held by Jeffrey Master, was killed after being struck on the head by a rock salt lamp, and his body was hidden inside Master's dessert. The murder weapon was later found inside Delicia Scones' entry, a candy castle. Later, in the victim's own room, it was discovered that his entry, a collection of sherbet sculptures, had apparently melted, and were believed to be lost.

Immediately after they discovered that Dover's scupltures had melted, Prosecutor Manfred von Karma ordered Gregory Edgeworth to leave at once. Because of this, you can't investigate Dover's room, and must make do with whatever information you can find out from here. Kate comes and gives you some of her homemade Chocolates (チョコレート chokorēto) to eat. The sweets, which Kate made herself, are very sweet, and a little mis-shapen. Chocolate, she says, is Master's favourite food, and she takes it upon herself to prepare it for him. She explains that she was abandoned as a child, and Master took her in and raised her, so she feels that she must work as hard as she can in order to repay him.

Gregory asks Kate what she knows about the victim, Dover. She says she doesn't know much about him, but shows you a photo she took of his dessert. The sculptures are amazingly detailed, except for one thing - the lyre held by Gemini has no strings. Ray thinks that Dover simply made a mistake, but Kate disagrees, saying it would be "hard to think he would". She seems to be hiding something from you... Kate tells you she took the photo herself with her instant camera. After demonstrating it by taking a photo of Edgeworth and Ray, she tells you it is the same camera Master used during the contest. It ran out of film during the judging - apparently Master miscounted the amount of film remaining - so she went to get more. She discovered Dover's body on her way back. She has had the camera with her since then. The Instant Camera (インスタントカメラ insutanto kamera) and photo of Dover's Sherbet Salon (氷堂のお菓子部屋 Hyōdō no okashi heya) are added to the Court Record. Notice that the camera only has enough film left for three photos.

After this, Badd and Delicia return from Dover's room, having also been kicked out by von Karma, who is currently talking to Gustavia there. Apparently, Kate saw Gustavia entering Dover's room, while acting suspiciously. Badd says Gustavia is under suspicion for melting the sherbet sculptures, and gives you a photo of Dover's room in its current state. The sherbet melted when the plugs providing power to the coolers in the glass cases were pulled. Delicia says she would have eaten even more of the sherbet if she'd known it would be gone a few hours later. She explains that it was "most delicious", but the strings on the lyre were very salty, so someone else must have eaten the rest of it. Delicia's Testimony (デリシーの証言 Derishī no shōgen) is added to the Court Record.

Delicia also mentions that Dover's sculptures had some sort of "markings" on them, in the shape of the letters "PH". Does this remind you of anything...? Open the Court Record, and check the underside of Jeff's Teapot (天海のティーポット), and you'll find the same initials. Kate again says that Dover wouldn't make a mistake in his sculptures... Time to clear up your suspicions about what Kate really knows about him. You are asked to present two pieces of evidence that share a common feature with each other. Present both the Signet Crest (刻印) and Jeff's Teapot (天海のティーポット) (the order doesn't matter). The "PH" marking was probably Dover's "signature", which he engraved in all of his works. The letters "PH" aren't Dover's initials, though, but the imprint of the signet crest matches up exactly with that on the teapot made by Pierre Hoquet... It turns out that Dover's true identity was a sculptor (彫刻家 Chōkoku-ka), by the name of Pierre Hoquet.

This can't prove conclusively that he was indeed Hoquet, but Kate's behaviour thus far is proof enough for you. She knew Dover's true identity from the moment she saw the signet crest next to his body. She says that since then, she has taken only three photos with her camera - one of the body, one of Dover's room, and one of Edgeworth and Ray. This raises another contradiction, though - when asked to show what, present the Instant Camera (インスタントカメラ). 14 photos are unaccounted for... Kate finally owns up, and says that when she realised Pierre Hoquet was dead, she went to his room, and took several photos of his final works, the sherbet sculptures. She also admits to being responsible for causing them to melt, because she tripped over the power cord while taking the photos.

At this point, von Karma returns from his investigation. Kate admits to him that she caused the sculptures to melt. Edgeworth tries to speak to Gustavia, but von Karma stops him. He then drags everyone else off for questioning, leaving you with no choice but to go home for the night.
