The main philosophies used for teaching are: perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism and social reconstructionism. As an educator you should know your philosophy of education, which can be a combination of philosophical types. Having an understanding of the types of education philosophies will help you to understand not only why you teach the way you do, but also why the teacher own the hall teaches the way he/she does.
