Summary

Description
English: The origin of image degeneracy: the attenuation of each element of tissue may be characterised by μ, the linear attenuation coefficient as in (a). The total attenuation of each of the two columns of elements in (b) is identical (ignoring unequal scattering effects) so that the image contrast is the same for quite different anatomy.
