DSST
DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) have their origin in the United States Department of Defense's Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program. These are credit-by-examination tests designed to allow a student to demonstrate proficiency in an area of study normally taught at a college or university. Tests are available in 37 college subject areas. They are frequently used in conjunction with College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests by students pursuing college degrees in non-traditional situations. Whereas CLEP tests are almost exclusively used for lower level credit, DANTES Subject Standardized Tests are available for both upper and lower level credit. Prometric administers the tests under contract with the Defense Department for military personnel or on a fee basis for civilians.
