Cookbook:Healthy, Traditional Recipes
This is something of an experimental page. Below is a list of traditional recipes from various cultures that are both delicious and healthy.
I created this page while trying to lose weight. I became bored with the healthy foods I was eating but I didn't want to go back to eating foods that promote obesity. What you see below is the result: a list of healthy, traditional dishes to die for.
Feel free to add more recipes to the list. However, I ask that you adhere to a few simple rules. If you create a page for a recipe, please present it in its most traditional form with only minor changes to make it healthy. For instance, feel free to substitute an artificial sweetener instead of sugar for a whole wheat pancakes recipe. However, don't try to pass off a tofu turkey as part of a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner. In other words, if minor changes won't make a recipe healthy then don't include it in the list. Also, please don't include your own recipe creations. I'm hoping to create a large list of traditional recipes, ones that have existed for decades or perhaps even centuries. Finally, please place it in the section for the culture it's part of.
An excellent example of a recipe that meets the above criteria is gambas al ajillo from Spain. Have a look at the ingredient list. You could make it healthier by taking away the sherry but why do that? The sherry raises the caloric content only slightly. Also gambas al ajillo is very popular in Spain and is one of that country's famous tapas, thereby making it very traditional.
