Want to know what's going on in the mind of spideyworm? I can try to explain it to you, but I doubt you'll understand what I don't understand. Nonetheless, this is a good spot to air my thoughts on the Blender 3D: Noob to Pro wikibook, the Blender 3D wikibooks in general, and other pressing issues. Hope you enjoy and post some feedback.

Book Status

Well, what has happened to the Noob to Pro lately? To be honest, not much. I've lost steam and also run out of things I can teach. If you're a Blender noob, you don't want another Blender noob teaching you the finer points of 3D modeling, am I right? When you're new, the habits you develop early on can affect you the rest of your Blending life, so I want to teach the best of habits. I really want to start kids right. I tried contacting some of the better modellers in the community asking for their help writing tutorials, which they gladly offered... but they haven't actually contributed anything yet, as far as I know.... If you all have to wait for me to become a master modeller before I finish the wikibook, you will simply have to wait.

I've been contacted by some people wondering why the book lost quality partway through. It's simple: lack of a cohesive writing style. How many people have made edits to this thing? Lots. How many different writing styles are we talking? Just as many. Give it time, I will go through and bring the whole thing together so that it flows nicely. Someday. I'd love to see this thing in print someday, so it will happen sometime before then.

I was contacted by Stefano Selleri and Ton Roosendaal recently to consult the official Blender documentation and book authors on the possibility of moving from DocBook to MediaWiki for content development. We had quite the lively discussion on this topic (read here, remember that I'm David Millet). I'd love to hear your feedback on the idea.
