The Computer Revolution/Peripherals/Midi

Midi stands for "Musical Instrument Digital Interface". Midi is an industry standard for audio engineers that allows them to manipulate and control any of the software instruments and functions through their computers. A midi instrument can be anything from an electric guitar, to an electric keyboard. Midi gear captures note events and adjustments from controls either on the instrument itself or on the program software the computer. The notes are then recorded as digital messages and then sent to the computer where they can be recorded and manipulated to a further point. Midi can carry up to sixteen channels of information. The note event messages carried by midi specify pitch, notation, velocity, and control signals such as: volume, panning, vibrato, cues, and tempos.
