Walk the Walk was established in 1996 when 13 women Power Walked the New York City Marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. The charity was founded by Nina Barough. The success of the charity is outstanding due to Nina having no experience of fundraising or taking part in marathons nor did she know anyone who had been affected by breast cancer [1].

In January 1997, Nina was diagnosed with breast cancer. Friends around her to gathered a team to power walk the London Marathon to show their support. By 1998 it was clear that word was spreading. Nina began to find sponsors that would help her to fund the setting up of an official charity.

Walk the walk started out as a simple idea and has now become a dynamic charity which promotes a healthy and fit lifestyle and at the same time raises significant funds for breast cancer causes. It has now blossomed into a thriving multi-million dollar charity, having raised to date in excess of £75 million.

So far in 2011, Walk the Walk has raised £8, 252, 538 [2].

Walk the Walk like all charities, rely on their loyal and dedicated volunteers to ensure the success of their events. Walk the walk volunteers are part of the key team that makes the events happen, they make new friends and get a great view of the action [3].

Active Network provide Walk the Walk with the running event management software they require in order to put on their events. The online registration software provided by Active Network enable participants to register for the event in a few easy steps. Active Network’s charity run and walk software provide charities and organisations the tools required to run a streamline and efficient event.
