Scrabble/Playing the J

The letter J is the second-highest scoring letter tile in Scrabble, only behind the Q and Z. There is only one such tile in a standard Scrabble tile pool. This tile, like other high-scoring tiles, is best suited on a letter bonus square, or as part of a word bonus.

Because of its infrequency in the English language, it's hard to make a big word with the J, so if you're looking to score a bingo, it's probably best to get it off your rack quickly.

JO is the only two letter-word containing the letter J accepted by the official Scrabble dictionary. Its plural is JOES, so don't try to hang an S off it to make JOS - you will likely lose a challenge if you attempt this.

There are only a few three-letter words with it (JOE, JAY, JOY, to name a few).
