International Postage Meter Stamp Catalog/Zambia

Zambia edit

  • The first meter was installed in 1951 while the country was the British possession of Northern Rhodesia. In 1953 the British merged Northern Rhodesia with their other colonies of Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland into the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. In 1963 the Federation dissolved. Northern Rhodesia became independent and a year later changed its name to ZAMBIA. For issues during the period of federation, see RHODESIA & NYASALAND.

NOTE: In the 1990s the Government of Nigeria banned the use of postage meters because of widespread counterfeiting. Possibly due to the ban fakers began using different country names in their forgeries such as the one shown below pretending to be from Zambia. The impression is crude and was probably made from a hand stamp.
