Netherlands Antilles

* The first meter was installed in 1950.

• All stamps are inscribed “NEDERLANDSE ANTILLEN” or “Netherlands Antilles”.

• The stamps are grouped according to usage:

A – Stamps from machines in private, commercial use

PO – Stamps from machines in Post Offices

• Some meter stamps incorporated stars representing the six main islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius, and Sint Maarten. Originally six stars were shown but from 1986, following the secession of Aruba from the Netherlands Antilles, only five stars were depicted on modified or newly issued machines.
• On 10 October 2010 (10.10.10) the Netherlands Antilles in effect ceased to exist. The islands of Curacao and St. Maarten together formed a unit that, although still attached to The Netherlands, has greater self government. See CURACAO for stamps of this entity.
• The islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba voted to fully merge with The Netherlands and now have status as overseas municipalities. Their currency however is the U.S. dollar rather than the euro. See DUTCH CARIBBEAN for stamps of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba.

GROUP A: Stamps from machines in private, commercial use

A1. Hasler “F88” (MV), 1950. Upright frank scalloped border. Inscribed “NEDERLANDSE / ANTILLEN” at top and “Cent” at bottom. M# between dashes below frank. TM: DC V/F: 000(½)00(½)00 0,oo

A2. Postalia (MV). Upright to nearly square frank with stright, single-line border. Inner shape around value figures resembles a fish pointed downward. Inscribed “NEDERLANDSE ANTILLEN” above the 'fish' and “CENT” within the 'fish' at bottom. Six small stars across the bottom M# with “P.S.” prefix below the town mark. A: Frank 25-26 mm wide B: Frank 28 mm wide TM: DC V/F: 000 00.00

A3. Francotyp “Cc” (MV). [$5] Frank has straight line border at top and bottom and dentate lines at the sides. The top panel containing “NEDERLANDSE / ANTILLEN” is wider than the rest of the frank. "CENT" is in the narrowest part of the frank in the bottom. Date with stops after D and before Y. M# without prefix below frank. A: Frank 25 mm wide at top B: Frank 27-28 mm wide at top TM: SL V/F: 00 000 ♦000

A3.1. Francotyp "C” (MV), 1972 or earlier. [Very rare, value uncertain] Frank identical to Type A3B but much wider spacing between the town mark and the frank. Date without stops. One seen, meter number 2. TM: SL V/F: 000

A4. Francotyp “Cc” (MV). [$5] Similar to Type A3, but the top panel is of the same width as the main part of the frank. M# without prefix below frank. TM: SL V/F: 00 000

A5. Pitney Bowes “5000” (MV). Horizontal frank without outer frame line. Country name above value box at right, with town mark at left. Five or six stars above the meter number between the TM and frank. With ornamental lines at left of the TM, and a column of horizontal dashes at right of the frank. Date figures are raised in relation to value figures. Town mark has scroll work above and at left. M# with “P.B.” prefix. TM: SC V/F: ≋0.00

A6. Pitney Bowes-GB “5000” (MV). Similar to Type A5 but without ornaments at top and left of town mark. The date figures are larger than with Type A5. M# with “P.B.” prefix. TM: DC V/F: ≋0.00

A7. Pitney Bowes-GB “6300” (MV). Similar to Type A6 but the value box is open at top and left, and a line has been added at bottom. The letters in country name are smaller than with Type A6. The date and value figures are on the same level. M# with “P.B.” prefix. TM: DC V/F: ≋0.00

A8. Pitney Bowes-GB “6900” (MV). Similar to Type A7 but much taller. The inner value box has been removed altogether leaving the design without vertical lines. M# with “PB” prefix TM: DC V/F: ≋0.00

A9. Pitney Bowes-GB “A900” series (MV). As Type A8 but shorter, and with larger value figures. M# with “PB” prefix. TM: DC V/F: ≋00.00

A10. Pitney Bowes (digital). Similar to previous Pitney Bowes types but with two columns of stacked numbers at left of the town mark. A. M# with “PB” prefix. B. M# with “OO” prefix. TM: DC V/F: ≋00.00

A11. Hasler "Mailmaster" (MV). [Possibly very rare] Compact frank quite similar to Type A7 but with "H" prefix to the meter number. Meter H001 only one reported. TM: DC V/F: 00.00

GROUP PO: Stamps from machines in Post Offices

PO1. Massad (Israel) (digital), 2001. Preprinted, multicolor self-adhesive label with point-of-sale data added in black. Inscribed “post/ Netherlands Antilles Ltd.” in small letters below large "post" at top right. The "pos" of "post" is blue while the "t" is red. Pale blue panel across bottom is either blank or contains a serial number. Town, date, time, weight and PO branch at upper left. TM: SL V/F: 0.00 00.00

PO1.1. Massad (Israel) (digital). Printed on same label stock as PO1, but the point-of-sale data is in the lower panel rather than at upper left. The value figures are printed in the same font style as the other data and is not as large as with PO1. TM: SL V/F: 0.00 00.00

PO2. Siemens (digital), 2004. Small self-adhesive label with light gray underprint pattern and rounded corners. The point-of-sale data is within a horizontal rectangle with panels at top and bottom. "post" and country name in top panel. Without town name but with post office identification code in bottom panel. V/F: 00.00
