International Postage Meter Stamp Catalog/Jamaica

Jamaica edit

  • The first meter was installed in 1939.
  • All stamps have “JAMAICA” in the frank.
  • All franks include a crown representing the British monarch.
  • The stamps are divided into two groups:
A - private, commercial use stamps
PO - stamps generated only by machines in Post Offices.

A1. Neopost (LV-6), 1939.  [$50]

Small, upright frank with simulated perforation outer and straight-line inner border.
Small crown and large monogram of King George VI (GviR) in center.
Value figure at bottom. “POSTAGE” and “REVENUE” vertical in side panels.
M# with “N” prefix flank value figure.

NOTE: An essay of meter N1 exists that differs from Type 1 only in the monogram of King George V (GvR) rather than George VI.

As Type A1 but with “PAID” vertical at right (versus “REVENUE”).

A3. Universal “ MultiValue” (MV), 1949.

Similar to Type A2 but larger, with crown at bottom center and without monogram.
M# with U” prefix in boxes in lower corners.
A. Frame with small ‘perforation holes (12 indentations across top and bottom). Small crown. M# U1 only  [$20]
B. Larger frame with large ‘perforation holes (7 indentations across top and bottom). Large crown  [$5]

A4. Universal “Automax” (MV).  [$10]

Similar to Type A3 but crown wider and low at center.
Ten indentations across top and bottom.
Double frame line at bottom. M# with “U” prefix.

A5. Universal “Simplex” (LV-21/-13), 1952.  [$5]

Similar to Type A4 but smaller, with wider spacing between TM and frank.

A5.1. Universal “Simplex” (LV-21/-13), 1965.  [$5]

Identical to Type A5 except for the wider crown.

Frank with single straight-line border featuring palm trees at the sides.
Center contains crown over monogram “E ii R”.

NOTE: Type A16 was previously cataloged as Type PO1. The meter may have been used in post offices but a recently discovered cover showed that it was used in the private sector.

PO2. Ticket Issuing Machines (T.I.M.) or possibly Setright Registers Ltd. (LV).  [Extremely rare, value unknown]

Rectangular design applied to tape, never directly to a cover.
Vertical rectangles at left and right, left containing "POSTAGE/ PAID" and the right the value figures.
"JAMAICA" between bars at top center, and the date in center with bar at bottom.
One example known.
