English: Rock Strata Reddened, thinly-bedded sandstones and siltstones here have traditionally been assigned to the Old Red Sandstone, or Devonian period. A Carboniferous date is more likely, though the deposits which are of terrestrial origin in arid soils and ephemeral lakes yield no fossil evidence to prove either claim.
