Description Ray (red) of the ASE bouncing in a w:disk laser due to the w:total internal reflection; at the pumped region of size , such a ray may have length . Most of rays are much shorter than , but due to the w:exponential growth of the power in the w:gain medium the long rays give significant contribution to the depletion of gain.
