In addition to the Lagrangian description of the system, the Hamiltonian description can also be used.

The Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ can be constructed as follows

$\mathcal{H} = \sum_{n} p_{n}\dot{q}_{n} -\mathcal{L}$

Where $p$ is the momentum, $q$ is the position, and $\mathcal{L}$ is the Lagrangian.
