Color Wheel

Name and know the primary colors. edit

The Primary colors are red, yellow, and blue. Primary colors cannot be made from other colors. Artists create all the other colors of the rainbow by mixing together the primary colors.

The secondary colors are green, orange and violet (purple). Secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors. Each secondary color is made from the two primary colors closest to it on the color wheel

  • Mix these colors to make three new colors.
  • Use these six colors to make a picture.

Demonstrate how to sharpen pencils and clean brushes. edit

  • Sharpen two pencils.
  • Using water, clean your brush.

Finger Paint

Make a design with each of the following edit

Finger paints - Have the children finger paint on a piece of finger paint paper mixing orange and yellow. Then have them finger paint with brown and black on another sheet. After it is dry, have the children cut out ground and a sun as shown. Glue in place on a large sheet on construction paper. Glue small green pompoms down for the caterpillar's body and a red pompom for the head. Glue a small bent piece of pipe cleaner above the head. Add tiny wiggly eyes.A sample of this project is found in this webpage:Hungry Caterpillar Finger Paint Art

Colored pencils - Did you know that good colored pencils can actually blend together like oil pastels do? I didn’t until I purchased some new supplies.

  • Demonstrate a simple line drawing of an apple sitting on a table and ask your students to draw their own, in pencil.
  • Show students how to "glaze" a drawing by coloring the different layers needed for this apple. Fill the apple shape first with white colored pencil, then a layer of yellow (leave a highlight spot) then orange, and finally red.
  • Add detail such as the stem and background. A sample of this project is found in this webpage:Colored pencil apple drawing

Felt markers -

Learn an art technique and demonstrate two of the following edit

  • Potato prints - have a painterly quality reminiscent of impressionist art. To make one, cut a potato (any variety will do) in half, and draw a shape onto the flesh with a pencil. Then, using a utility knife or a jackknife with a thin blade, carve around the outline of the pencil design, and cut away the background to a depth of 1/4 inch. Dip the potato into a dish of paint as though using a stamp pad. Press the potato onto blank cards, reapplying paint when the prints become faint. Each print will look unique and slightly irregular—a work of art in itself. To make a tag, punch a small hole in the corner of the card with a needle or an awl, and thread a piece of string or ribbon through.
  • Stencil
  • Paper_mache or clay model
Materials
  • Modeling clay
  • Toothpick
Instructions
Roll a quarter-size piece of modeling clay into a ball, then roll smaller clay pieces into eight identical snakes. Press the snakes onto opposing sides of the ball, and bend them into legs.
Flatten two yellow clay balls for eyes, and use a toothpick to make holes for pupils. Make two tiny white clay snakes for fangs.
  • Bread dough art Ornament Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Directions:
Mix salt and flour.
Add in half the water, then eventually add the remaining water. Knead until the dough is smooth, this can take up to 10 minutes. For flat dough ornaments roll out the dough on baking paper Or be creative and make odd shapes and wreaths (takes longer to bake) Now that you have your mixture completed, you simply take cookie cutters or your hands and create anything you please. It can be big or small, depending on how much stuff you make. The best way to make a hole in the top of the ornament so that you can hang it from the tree is to place a straw where you want it and press firmly and twist. It then slices the through all the salt-dough.
To bake the salt-dough, it depends somewhat on the thickness your creation. Set your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit and leave in for an hour to an hour and a hal. If you think its done, make sure it is dry, then it is done.
